Provide a summary of the concept, how it works/could work, and why it could be successful

Witnessing the continuous death of refugees who’s seeking Sea to survive from the
situation they are in and taking their parents and children while they know that they might
be killed or dead in any moment. There are no safety standards considered in this journey,
at least to be found once is needed (in Emergency situation).
The Sign project is a disruptive project that will rescue refugees life, and will solve global
health problem (Drowning).Based on study for World Health Organization (WHO), Drowning
is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death globally.
SIGN Project aims to solve global problem drowning and at same time to rescue refugees
from drowning.
The Sign project will support disabled and healthy people body from drowning

Explain briefly the specific problem(s) you are trying to solve, and how your solution impacts or will impact the region

Did you know that Hundreds of thousands of people die every year from drowning?
Now I want each one of you to take a moment to ask yourself.
Have you ever saw someone drowning?, have you ever drowned? , Have you ever lost
someone and you didn’t know what really happened to him?
In 2012, an estimated 372 000 people died from drowning, making it a major public health
problem worldwide.
Based on study for World Health Organization (WHO), Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of
unintentional injury death globally
Since Refugees started the Unescapable Desperate Journey to THE UNKOWN led to
shocking number of victims.
In 2015 There are more than One million refugee’s arrived to Europe crossing
Mediterranean
In 2016 387,487 arrivals to EUROPE 2016Almost of 388,000 refugee’s arrived to Europe
crossing Mediterranean

Geographical Scope: where is the innovation currently operating/where would it first be applied and where would it scale?

I am planning to start implementing and testing the project in MENA region and then
within 12 to 16 months take it globally

Please state the current status of your initiative

Concept stage

Beneficiaries: Explain who would benefit from this solution and indicate whether you would be working with a local partner or organization to implement (if so,specify)

I see myself collaborating with MSF , reached MSF Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
International ; and their response MSF might be interested in testing the solution once the
product is finalized .
Beside that

Describe the scalability and innovation elements of your initiative

The Sign project a new concept of life jacket in which support disabled and healthy people
body from drowning, as the mechanism of the life jacket it’s a self-sustaining and does not
need any physical interaction in order to maintain the person’s body above sea level.
Involvement restrictions are the main perils for the disabled, it’s almost always a lifethreatening
hazard.
The features in the jacket will assist disabled persons whether elderly, handicapped or with
health difficulties. The help will be provided with Minimal interference from them.
The assistive inclusive features will self-respond to aid disabled people limitations in
multiple functions in order to get to safety .
Introducing the sign project is a step to take action : where a new concept of life jacket
exists.
Due to the current situation, it has been investigated and researched for the main reasons
of the death of Disabled and Healthy refugees.
1) A lot of gaps in the current life that could be developed and taken into a new different
level. the current life jackets doesn’t isolate or protect the swimmer from following
Hypothermia – Water Temperature
– Marine Animal attacks
That lead to give drowning person couple of hours to survive.
It was given the name “The Sign Project” for multiple reasons: a new concept for life jacket
First, the product launched aims at showing that the lives of the thousands of victims
being
lost every year matters, and in the hope that work can serve as well as be warning sign
that the lives of these
refugees ( healthy – disabled ) are in jeopardy.
Second, many initiatives that concern the refugee crisis were made to aid victims, while
the
purpose of the project is to prevent incidents arising from maritime travelling. Therefore, it
was aimed to
embrace this matter as a sign for all to take action.
The Sign project is a sign for survival as it gives days instead of couple of hours to
survive for anyone who has faced the danger of drowning.

Please state your innovation sponsor (if applicable)

None

What are your key resources at this stage and what resources would you need to implement/scale?

I will need financial support to develop prototype and at same time I’m looking for team to
work together in development process

What are your key challenges and risks at this stage?

the main challenges would be the weight and volume of life jacket, my focus is to develop
not only a life jacket ensuring in saving live of drowning person but also to be easy wear
and use.

What are your goals and timeline?

Goal number one 6 – 9 months develop a prototype
Goal number two – keep testing product to come up with the best version of life jacket
Goal number three – collaborate with NGOs in distribution of lifejackets for refugees to
ensure that they will be saved from drowning.
Goal number four, taking the final product globally as commercial product- The potential
consumers will be for airplanes- many airplanes land on sea in emergency and many
passengers sued the airlines because they suffered from Hypothermia, In addition the
potential market is for cruises, individual ships, Taking in consideration there are
necessity for Sign project , it try solve a global issue an almost 400’000 victims die from
drowning every year.

Why should this innovation be selected?

Its time to solve global problem which is Drowning
World Health Organization (WHO), Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury
death globally.
Beside that, urgent action needed to save refugees, Please keep in mind that SIGN Project
does not aim at promoting irregular immigration. Our mission in this project is to provide a
mean for survival and to try as much as possible to reduce the number of victims. The sign
project is a sign of hope for people who lost their homes and families, and for people who
are looking to escape circumstances they did not choose. All we are trying to do is prevent
tragic incidents from occurring.
Referring to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) number of refugees
victims from drowning in 2019 , as per last update -19th August , 839 victims.
Taking in consideration, more than 70% of refugees drowned in Mediterranean are
missing
